Sorry if it's been asked but what happened to LSUs 100m & 200m guy at the Olympic trials?

Laird
He didn’t qualify
I don’t think he was a factor in 100
200 he had a shot but I think he finished 4th or lower

He’s from IMG and he’s 17 he beat Lyle in the semi heat trials but lost to him in the finals

He didn't run in the 100 to focus on the 200

He didn’t run the 100 to try and get in on the 200. Placed 6th in the finals. Top 3 went to Japan.

The 17 yo also broke Bolt’s U18 and U20 WRs

The BLM shirt he has been wearing could have been too heavy for him.....

Heats do NOT mean what kids think…. Lining up and exerting yourself to the max every heat is how you don’t make the team.
The issue with most fans is they think you can have “the fastest time in thr world” before the trials or olympics and win. That doesn’t mean much because a lot of these athletes are NOT RUNNING to win early in the year. They are working on technique and training to win later on.
I said it before the trails that Laird had no shot at the 100 (which he wisely didn’t try to compete) and was a “maybe” for the 200 ( he finished 6th). To think he was beating Lyles was a pipe dream. That 17 y/o IMG kid, Knighton, EVERYBODY in the track world knew who he was before that race. He set the national record at 16 in AAU.
I was more surprised by the race that Benarek ran.
Like I said after the race, Laird needs more experience. He will get it as a pro.

If Trindon had Lairds strides, much less Bolts, he would have owned every world record with his turnover.

I think Laird just started wearing down. His times got worse as the season wore on. The pressures, both emotionally and physically were immense.

quote:i get your point on the wear and tear on him. He ran a bunch of events at NCAAs. I think this was huge when he was beat at nationals from being walked down. He ran a sub-20 time at Nationals which included the stress and toll from all of those events he ran that week. As you recall, the guys in just the 200 had more recover between NCAAs and the Trials because the 200 was at the back end.

you’re so fricking stupid. Knighton visibly let up and started looking around for the last 20 meters of the semifinal heat. He was not remotely close to “exerting himself to the max.”

You, the guy that guaranteed LSU would not win the men’s track championship this year because not enough people PR’d at regionals or advanced that weren’t supposed to, are talking about the issues with what other people are thinking.

You didn’t. You specifically mentioned pros knowing energy conversation and how to navigate rounds multiple times. Knighton is 17 years old and never competed at a senior level championship event, much less the Olympic trials. But he still managed to make it on the team somehow. So did 6 other college runners on the track alone. But you keep babbling about PROS showing your stupidity.

Bednarek made the last world championships US team and has been one of the top 200m guys in the world the last 3 years. You were surprised because you dont know shite about track.

Ding Ding, winner winner... this
He did not run the 100. He looked tired and did not have that kick to top end speed that he had at the beginning of the outdoor season, then even more speed toward the end of the race in the 200.
He would have done better in the 100 than the 200, but he did not know he would burn out.

If you know track(which you obviously don't but claim to) you would know its not that simple.
