Eric Clapton said Buddy Guy was the best guitar player he ever heard.

All of these posts and only 1 that said Tosin Abasi or Tim Henson. For shame.

Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton are my favorites. You can have favorites without saying someone is the best.
These two Yardbirds plus Yardbird Jeff Beck. Three of the best guitarist all in the same band. This is my favs.
Add Brian May and Jimi Hendrix and your list is hard to beat
Technically, Eric Johnson.
Getting close to Beck is John Bonamassa, another fav of mine.
Nashville session work; Wade Bernard.
Muscle Shoals session word decades ago; Duane Allman, not a swamper.
Wrecking Crew session; Tommy Tedesco

William Ackerman is pretty good at creating lot's of "soundscapes" using acoustic guitar as the basis of his sound.
Brian May is my favorite rock n' roll guitarist and is out of this world in the studio and live when performing his own & Queen stuff but absolutely terrible in live/spontaneous jams.

When Paul Rodgers was performing with May/ Queen, they would do “all right now” by Free, May didn’t know the main riff, it would make me cringe.

In terms of technical ability, John Petrucci is the best guitar player I've ever heard personally.
If we're talking style and sound, Stevie Ray Vaughn has the best command over an instrument I've ever seen. His playing is just pure emotion and wizardry.

Robert Fripp deserves to be on the list.
