It used to be the high school coach was the main point of contact
Now, it's the people attaching themselves early in high school to these kids, go to a 7 on 7 event and it could be that guy that organizes those teams and brings them all over the country or the AAU coaches in basketball.
It's like that in most sports.
Another example, is most baseball recruiting is done at all these elite travel events during the summer.

they want cash under the table from boosters - cash for the kid and family and them

Trust me, it still is for football. But for how long…who knows? Too many adults are trying to stick their nose into the lives of these kids and it creates egos, confusion, or (in most cases) disappointment.
