Go look at the club system in Europe. That is the future.
And, good luck on you greatest day. How many games are released for minor league / club sports.
The current system basically funds 95% of college athletics by not paying the 5% what the market would bear while maintaining their status as "charitable tax free" organizations.
Once a true professional model is introduced to "college" sports, the current athletic departments will be split from the universities. There will be no more title IX. No more track and field, tennis, etc. There won't be tax free donations or scholarships. There will simply be minor league professional teams.
I think the top football teams will survive for a while, but how many minor league teams look anything like current college athletics. In the long run, the USA does not support minor leagues very well.
A lot of people have had a chance to go from sharecropper to life long success due to athletic scholarships; while, other people went to school for 4 years and can not read. I suspect that many in the public don't really look at the big picture of the NCAA in spite of all of the adds about people who go on to "jobs outside professional sports".
