Used to be. Memphis has FedEx, Autozone, International Paper, and a few other big employers. It had major potential but they made a lot of the wrong moves 20-30 years ago.
Nashville has since surpassed Memphis and is probably going to rival Atlanta in a decade or so.
I lived in Collierville for 4 years and loved it. Memphis has some serious problems, but there's no shortage of friendly people there. Awesome zoo too.

Nashville may rival metro St. Louis in a decade, not Atlanta.

Keep dreaming. Metro Nashville has less than a third the population go metro Atlanta.
