Would somebody please be kind enough explain to an English dude the massively overly complicated contract scenario playing out?

I was always under the impression that after the first 4 years of the rookie contract (much like BI and Zo) you either let them walk, sign them to a max extension or let them go to RFA and match if you want. Basically controlling their destiny.

But I’m hearing there’s a ‘get out’ where Zion could potentially ‘opt out’ and sign a ‘qualifying offer’ …whatever the frick that is.. and then becomes a UFA the next season?
