If it was me, and if I want to avoid using a junction box (which I do avoid when possible for the cleaner look), I would put a 3/4" bit on an angle and nip the corner of the 2x4. Then I could get both screws in solid wood and still pass an rj45 through the hole.

That's one thing I like about the UI cams (and some of the other higher end brands offer the same), is they have a port rather than a pigtail like almost all of the chinese cameras have. You need about a 1" hole to fit the pigtail's weather seal through vs. the 3/4" or smaller hole for an rj45 alone. One inch vs 3/4 doesn't sound like much, but it's twice as big a hole. Probably doesn't matter at all, at least not most of the time, but I still like putting the bare minimum size hole possible.
