Your favorite goat ranch?

Met my bro halfway between Austin and Houston at giddings municipal golf course. Man it’s a tremendous goat ranch we drank a shite load of beer, let the driver rip and hit gap wedges from wherever it ended up. Nobody out there and had a blast. Made me wonder what other goat ranches are favorites of the golf board.

Lost Canyons
Simi Valley, CA
It’s closed now, but the years leading up to it closing we’re glorious. I’ve played some really nice courses, but that’s still my favorite course of all time.
Up in the mountains, every hole was either over a canyon, over a mountain. Long as all get out, I think 7400 yards (2 par 5s over 600 yards).
It had two courses, shadow and sky. I never got to play the shadow, it closed years before the other. But the couple years until it closed were great. Always just about the only person out there. Some of the most beautiful mountain views I’ve seen. And since nobody was playing it, it was always like $25.
Now I don’t think it can be considered a “goat ranch” because they had the opposite problem. They just stopped watering all of the grass until it eventually dried out and closed. A big part of my love for golf died that day. I’ve played a handful of really nice $hundreds of dollars per round courses and some nice clubs as well. But to me, nothing will ever compare

For $7 I’ll take a super-twilight stroll around City Park North every so often. The tee boxes may be domed, and most of the greens are unputtable, but it’s better practice than banging balls off mats at the range.

I'll take the other city park- Historic City Park in Baton Rouge. It is a really fun course. The greens are super slow and it isn't in the best shape. But it's a fun little 9 hole course with some blind shots, interesting holes, etc.

Pine Forest in Bastrop, Tx
Amazing elevation changes but your typical goat ranch with shitty greens and fairways

Magnolia Creek in Ethel was the goat. Cheap arse beers and greens were always good.

Then I'll go ahead and throw LSU in there to complete the Baton Rouge Pair.

Braithewait GC (RIP); Katrina blew it away. I would drive an hour each way to play it, and could zip around in 2 1/2 hours. Better than a 5 hour round at City Park-NO.

Quail Hollow in McComb MS, incredible layout, but it hasn't been in good shape in a while. Needs an overhaul on the greens

There's a 9 hole track I'm Clinton that qualifies but can't think of the name.
