People are so fricking stupid. If the flag is red and you go in anyway, sorry but you should forfeit your right to be rescued. Dumbasses are dying and killing rescuers every year.

I won't even go in on yellow flag. shite even blue or whatever color it is for best conditions I'll maybe go waist deep and then spend the entire time yelling at my kids to get closer to shore. I have to get a little drunk to relax at the beach. Otherwise all I worry about is riptide or sharks Not too drunk, just a buzz.

While I don't really disagree, there are a lot of areas on the beach where flags aren't visible. The area where this happened is kind of like that. But still, any reasonably intelligent person can get knee deep in the water and tell how rough the surf is going to be, and it should be even more obvious if there are storms in the area like there were last night.

I learned this lesson last year in Santa Rosa. Went in with double red flags because I'm an a-hole and assumed I'd be okay. I really love swimming in the ocean. It took me 40 minutes to get back to shore... legitimately thought I was going to drown. I was bummed out that I wasn't going to make my dinner reservation at Cafe Tango that night.
