it felt like he was making that "nola to short\lemahieu to 2nd" move in deep despearation to look like a genius......and it failed miserably.

And there are a few huge differences with what Mainieri did.

He put Nola at shortstop and stuck with him even when he looked lost at the plate. That move this year was Thompson to short and Bianco to 2nd. Later in the season, the infield finally looked comfortable. Mainieri made a huge mistake moving Bianco from 2nd. He's played great in CF, but I think he would have been much more valuable to the team at 2B, especially in hindsight.

It also would have been nice if Mainieri had convinced/re-recruited Hampton to stay and at least wait until the end of the season to decide on transferring.

eta: Also, "defensive specialist" Austin Nola still managed a 0.240 batting average as freshman. The fact that we have 3 starters batting below that is pathetic.
