The myth of American democracy

I'm really tired of people saying the US is a democracy. "Democracy this, democracy that. Our democracy... A threat to democracy!" Our nation is a constitutional republic, damnit!
Article IV, Section IV of the U.S. Constitution:
U.S. Constitution
Article IV, Section IV of the U.S. Constitution:
quote:
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.
U.S. Constitution

Well Texas is being invaded and the Fedgov isn't doing shite about it.

What's also funny about that, is that people who love to say democracy also reject populism.
They're the same fricking thing.
They're the same fricking thing.

Of all the things the Filth is doing to our country that is not real high on my list of complaints.

The truth is that it wasnt a problem back when people lived in 100 person "cities" where you would not have seen an outsider for months at a time. The place literally operating as a family for all needs.
And if there were a piece of shite that rolled in you simply killed them and dumped them into the nearest ditch.
It could still work with tweaks

So you're tired of semantics? There's multiple definitions for the word democracy, and when someone refers to a country as being a democracy it isn't always a reference to the exact type of government. This is such an overblown issue that people like to complain about for a mysterious reason.

Because “they “ hammer and hammer it with our Democracy this and democracy that.
Something just seems off about it and knowing “they “ always say the opposite of what “they “ mean.
Words matter, right?

Just so we are clear, the constitution sets out a constitutional republic. It’s a separation of powers agreement between the federal government and the states and the people. States have generally adopted a representative democracy where the people still have a large influence over the laws that govern them.
So why it’s mysterious to you is because it’s civics 101.

Exactly. Words are important. Just ask George Orwell.

I do agree on the point of state level governments.

It is both a republic and a democracy. The terms are not mutually exclusive.
It's not (always) direct democracy but by definition we have a democratic system.

The left has spent the better part of 70 + years speaking of democracy from which upon is a mob rule lottery based metric that has little basis in our founding principles.
But yet they harp...

If we were a democracy, there would be:
Majority/Mob rule
No abortions
No same-sex marriage
No trans people
No protection for minority people or groups
2 genders and 2 terms
The woke minority exists because we are a republic.
It only seems like we are a democracy because the left has hijacked our republic and has no regard for our constitution.
Just to clarify, minority refers to the smaller number.

No we're a democracy because we run democratic elections.

Technically its a representative republic.
However, there is no doubt we have very strong democratic traditions..

People voting directly for laws (we have this at certain levels in our government) = democracy
People directly electing candidates = democracy
People directly electing representatives = democracy
Saying "we're a republic, not a democracy!" is the kind of thing that might induce chin scratching and nodding at your 9th grade party but if you're pulling it any later in life it might be time to reevaluate some things

Direct voting limits the power within the state. Any state/local law or ordinance that violates the minority will be overturned at a federal level = Republic

The word "democracy" does not appear in our constitution, and that's enough reason for me to understand why we aren't a democracy.
This applies to the 9th grade version of the constitution, and all subsequent grades.
