The bottom assembly comes apart a bit to remove any debris.
Were you using enough water in the receptacle?
Was the water in any way inhibited from properly flowing due to what you were cooking?
If all three of those aren't the issue, then it sounds like the unit went bad.

Will try this. Your other two suggestions were not issues. Will also do the vinegar soak as others suggested. May actually run it at low temp with vinegar water mixture. Hope it works
