if it is him, I suspect it has something to do with his writing, like he kills girls and gets close to the detective to get a better understanding or something

or maybe its actually her cousin and the Deacon is/was trying to protect him

I don't know, I just think the Deacon is a red herring like the Frank cliffhanger from last episode

He’s already made false statements and concealed evidence. He either did it or knows who did it. In a realistic telling.
