Cook and Gaines aren't getting any guarantees to be starters at another power 5 school so why leave?

LSU wasn't the only major school that recruited each so it is possible they still have relationships with coaches at other schools that could offer them what they think is better opportunity. Plus, they may feel that their coach bringing in two guys to essentially take the minutes that could have been available to Gaines or Cook means that Wade has moved on from them in terms of being starters.

Sure, we would like to see guys come in as freshmen and work to develop into better players as they get older but now, more than ever, that's not the way things are done. Guys will change schools at the drop of a hat. Hell, both Pinson AND Miller started EVERY GAME for major conf. programs that reached the NCAAT last season and STILL decided to move on! It used to be that guys transfered because their team wasn't very good and they wanted a better chance to succeed or, in most cases, they were frustrated with a lack of playing time. But look at the transfer portal. There are dozens, if not hundreds of guys who were starters on good teams who are transferring.

We are looking at maybe the largest single season roster turnover throughout the country in the history of the sport! Despite having zero seniors on the roster at the end of the season LSU could very well have a completely new starting 5 next season....with perhaps as many as 3 guys who weren't even at the school this year.

I said this after the Michigan game. Jalen Cook apparently was not thrilled with his role this year and wants guarantees about next year. Knowing Wade, and seeing him get Pinson along with this Miller lean, I would not be shocked at all to see Cook leave.
