Unforntunately for me, I had to lose everything. I was in jail for 3 months with my parents and entire family including wife had written me off. I got out and was homeless basically for a bit. I rebuilt my life over the last 4 years but i had to lose every external in my life before I truly understood that I could not ever drink normally. Not today not in a month not in a decade. Never. I am of the academic type I like to think and my dumbass had to try every single other way before I surrendered. I pray others can do this with less wreckage than me. frick I hate this disease sometimes and sometimes I am grateful its a part of me. Please reach out if you are reading this and need help. I am talking to one brother from this thread. We stay sober togethger. This person contacting me keeps me sober. you guys keep me sober. Thank you all for the truth, humor, strength hope and kindness in this thread.

Had to set those boundaries on my mom:(
She’s reached 78 and still an addict.......and taken decades off her life.
She went to numerous programs and I supported her through AAC. But when she balked at going to the Bell (long term after treatment) I knew she was doomed.
2 hrs after dropping her off at home, she was blasted.
You people here bring a tear to my eye. So very proud of every one of you.

FCC’s with Darren Davis is something everyone should have to experience at least once. I just got sweaty and nervous reading this
Experienced this as a young, defiant arse 19 year old kid. Didn’t get me sober, but definitely got my attention lol.
Darrens new facility is Lafayette is much different than how he ran the facility he was at. He is night and day different in his approach.
Now I will say, FCC’s has not changed much since he left. Jerry and Greg have kept them well and alive to this day

I don’t see how people afford it.
Ins generally pays for 30 days.
After that it’s like 20-25k a month

Day 4 Here we go. Slept really, really well. Clear head, no shakes felling good about myself, which I haven't in a long, long time. Looking forward to a weekend of not being Hungover and watching Brayden and Jayden play ball ball this weekend.

did an intensive outpatient rehab in 2016 for cocaine addiction and alcoholism. August of this year will be 5 years sober.
What does cocaine addiction looks like? What got you into rehab?

For me, it looked like spending every dollar I had on it.
When I didn’t have it I was planning how I would get the money to have it. As soon as I did some, I wasn’t stopping until I was out of money and resources.
I’ve been physically addicted to opiates and benzos and in my experience the mental aspect of addiction to cocaine far superseded opiates or benzos.
My mind constantly obsessed over it until I could get it. Once I had it, I was a cocaine and benzo fueled zombie that only cared about one thing, cocaine.

the physical stuff is there too. I could not really eat and lost a ton of weight. I had alcohol induced hepatitis and I was shake and vomit if I went too long without alcohol. By the morning drinking was necessary for me to feel "normal"
This was my exact experience with Opiates. I had been to "camp" a couple three times for dwi's, blow, etc etc. And my last time quit drinking bc I almost lost my life behind the wheel of an instrument of death(when I was driving). Afterward, I was scared, ashamed, tired and quit drinking and got life together thankfully from support from a great family who didn't give up on me.

My parents sent me to 10 day inpatient when I was 19. They found me passed out in their front yard after a long night of knob creek and Loratabs. Didn’t sober me up completely but definitely opened my eyes in the don’t be such a dumb arse category. Now days I do light drinking and an occasional toke. Looking back, I feel like I missed so many opportunities being pilled out all the time but do not dwell on it, just make sure I capitalize in the moment.
ETA: my DOC was “not being sober”, it didn’t matter what it was as long as I wasn’t sober. Loratabs and Xanex were frequent but there was always the nights of cocaine, mollly/shrooms/acid.

I guess technically? 5150 hold with all the rehab kids. Had a manic attack and ended up there for a month.
