I never lived there, just pulled in for port visits. First time in '92, last time in 2002 when it was just starting to build up into what it is today. My memories of it are the liberty Sandbox, sand dunes, the Seaman's Center and the Gold Souk. No massive mall, no Burj Khalifa, no skyscrapers. Just a straight ribbon of asphalt road through the desert.
