I don't know what it is, but it is probably racist.
Frank McLoughlin might know what it is. He used to own Foxhole military surplus in Covington. It's been a few years since I've seen him last. I suppose he is still alive. He knows St. Tammany history.
Or try the Trailhead Museum in Abita or the museum in Madisonville. If they don't know, they'll know someone who does know.

I used to talk to him about metal detecting and the history of the area. He definitely knew his stuff. The last I heard in the mid/late-90’s, he said he was moving to the Philippines where his wife was from. Downtown was turning into an artsy-fartsy nightmare and his rent was going way up. Someone mentioned that he was back but I can’t confirm.
If you are still in the area, go to Smith’s hardware and ask. They would give you good advice on who to talk to. They have been there forever and have a museum of sorts.
Louisiana has official archeologists on the payroll. If you can find them, shoot them an email.

Good old Frank. He used to be my brother's best friend. He is a cool dude.
