The Grapes of Wrath.
I know this will get down votes, but I can’t stand reading Steinbeck.
sucks for you
Another Grapes of Wrath hater here. I also hated Of Mice and Men even more. These are just horrible, depressing books.
Another book I hated that many love is The Book Thief. I did manage to finish it with great effort.

Catcher in the Rye. A world famous book ,but you will read it's entirety waiting for something to happen. I think its fame was the fact that it was the first book talking about prostition that escaped the censor police. Its a must read just to be able to say that you read it. It was discovered that most all serial killers have read this book.

Would be interested to hear why people hate The Grapes of Wrath. The plot? Steinbeck's writing style? The inner chapters? I recently read it again and was blown away by it...again. Not questioning anyone's judgment, just curious.
