I think your expectations are too high. LSU is a great baseball program but unlike football there aren’t a small handful of elite baseball programs.

Too often a football approach is applied to baseball. Second we expect baseball to be like it was in the 90s. That was the greatest decade any college baseball team will likely have ever.

Edit: the question seems to be whether we keep or fire Paul. It’s one thing to not be ok with not winning the national championship. It’s another thing to fire a coach when he has a good season. As in make it to Omaha or have a top 8 seed.

Are you really suggesting that we fire CPM if he doesn’t do better than 0-2 in Omaha? I think those are too high of expectations.

I agree that it would be tough to rationalize firing a guy that made it to Omaha...what I'm saying is he is clearly at the end of his coaching rope and it shows. The program is not on an upward trajectory and we as fans shouldn't be ok with that. But everytime we under achieve, the aPAULogists rush in to say we should be fine with it, we don't understand, shut up. It's been happening for years while the problematic ways we lose games is becoming a pattern.

Because he has a contract for the season.

Stop wringing your hands. Paul will be here throughout the season. You can scream all you want, nothing will change.

Mainuri apologists

Generally people who don't want the current coach fired in any sport are seen as some "apologist" here, which is just weird.

IMO not really.... I began thinking of them as apologist when it was impossible to call him out for coaching a shite game without being told he's doing a great job and anyone who disagrees doesn't know shite about baseball and should shut up.

Ranter: Boy...what a shite pitching decision by Maneri...wtf was he thinking

Every Paul apologist: HAVE YOU EVEN PLAYED BASEBALL???? So what we lost?? Shut up...that's baseball

Paul could have a team with all starters being Juniors and Seniors & everyone would still say he has a young team!

Most of the time I do think the we are young excuse is overblown but this year’s team is really young and the veterans you do have are inexperienced. Only one player in the starting lineup has had a significant number of at bats against SEC pitching. You do have veteran starters and your closer (for now) is a veteran but the rest of your best bullpen guys are freshmen.

Now they are extremely talented and if they can put it all together by the end of this season they could be really really good. They will only get better as they get more SEC experience and they are going to get a crash course of SEC play this season with all the arms they will face.

agreed, I would also add if we miss out on a trip to Omaha. LSU should be there every year.

I am not saying we shouldn’t strive for this but I would say Super Regionals every year should be the floor as LSU should be one of the best 16 teams and hosting a regional every year and should not lose that. Then you have a 3 game series to go to Omaha. Anything can happen in a 3 game series and I don’t expect LSU to win it every time but I think you can realistically expect them to at least half the time. That’s at least 2 Omaha trips every 4 years. I think that is more than a reasonable expectation for today’s college baseball.
