Yet again.
Such a lovely movie.
Such a lovely movie.

Twice a year, like clockwork, get more out of it, every time.
So unique, actors really work their arse off.
I'm of the possibly uninformed opinion that Anderson doesn't even pay well, but it's a joy for them.

I think it's on IMDB, if you can stomach the ads.

From the press for Grand Budapest Hotel:
quote:
"We are promised very long hours and low wages," Murray joked on how Anderson gets such great casts for his movies. "And stale bread. It's this crazy thing where you're asked to work long hours. You end up spending more money on tips than you make on the movie. But you get to live in — Wes, his dreamscape comes true. You get to watch it happen."
Anderson added that Murray only had about a day's work on "The Darjeeling Limited," but hung around in India for a full week. Murray joked back that on the various films he's worked on, they work for a very hard twenty minutes but get to spend five or six days in Paris.
How many directors are on par with Wes Anderson in their ability to fully realize an imagined world through light, sound, and texture? Pete Docter, Guillermo del Toro?

Love this movie. Probably Anderson's most accessible movie to general audiences.

Can't wait for The French Dispatch.
Possible showing at Caanes in May, which might mean a Summer release.

Although the pace, at times, is sometimes too fast (like Moonrise Kingdom), I think it just hits all the Wes Anderson things really, really well. While MK is more sentimental and I think I enjoy it more, overall, GBH is probably the better film with better acting.
Can't go wrong with either (or Rushmore for that matter, which I think is his best-paced film to date). Yes, I enjoyed the Royal Tenenbaums and Bottle Rocket (and yet to see Life Aquatic all the way through), but they're just not as rewatchable as Rushmore, Moonrise or Grand Budapest.

One of my favs for various reasons. Every time I've recommended that to someone they either love it or hate it.

I think Life Aquatic is Anderson’s most heartfelt movie

I think Grand Budapest is my favorite Wes Anderson movie
But the “it’s been a rough year dad” scene from The Royal Tennebaums I think is the best scene/moment he’s put on film so far. There’s so much there with such little dialogue. There’s just like a relief in tension you feel as the movie goer that feels like what Ben Stiller character is going through at that exact moment.

I watched it for the first time last year or the year before and really enjoyed it.
It helped that as I got older my movie taste evolved so that it vibed with me. Also helped that I had lower expectations for it; when it first came out people raved about it to me, and I don't think I would have liked it nearly as much.
Closest thing I can compare it to is Joe vs The Volcano - both are very theatrical, both break from reality with grand artistic flourishes, and obviously both were extremely polarizing on release and have remained so long afterwards.
