I think the last season is a completely different experience to someone who knows nothing about GOT going in and just binges it blindly.

Millions of viewers had read the books and were doing Sunday night watch parties with their friends for several years. The ending was going to be letdown to some degree for most fans. And it did suck. But I do think I would have hated it less if it wasn't a show that I watched from the S1 premiere back in high school

Good point. I hadn't read the books, so I think if I had, I probably would have been more disappointed. By the time I'm done with the books, and I end up watching the last two, I'll probably be more let down than I initially was.
