His quote about Helmers before the season described him as a two way player who he felt could end up being like Austin Bain. You said he saw him pick some balls coming from across the diamond. Mainieri said that he saw him fielding balls at first and that his fundamentals in fielding were better than the guys who had been competing at 3rd. He wanted to try him there after Helmers told him he had played 3rd in high school. After having him switch to 3rd, he believed that Helmers had been better defensively than the other guys who had not separated themselves from each other yet. He started him feeling like he gave them the best chance defensively to start the season. It’s all out there and been documented. As far as the quote about being in the top ten pitchers, where do you think the sports writer got it from? Thin air? I literally watched the video where PM said he and AD had to have a discussion about it because they felt that Helmers was in their top 10 pitchers on the team. I applaud you for trying to do a little more research this time, but you still got it wrong.

quote:Now who's lying? All he said was Thompson was having throwing issues. The fielding ground balls part wasn't mentioned. If his fundamentals were really that good, he would still be at 3B.
