Music and my son question 32.... Drums.

He has to take an elective next year and if he has a shot at drums he wants that. My kids not going to ever be big enough to worry about football in Katy Texas. I digress.
I bought 2 sets of sticks and the drum pads I and my mom (no pics) wished I had when I was 11 beating the shite out of her pillows and candle sticks.
So that’s what I got. Sticks and pads. What I need from the MB is a direction of a YouTube channel that is beginner drums and kid friendly. Very basic. I’ve warned him that beginning will be dull possibly but to get good..... Hell they’re called Rudiments. They try to warn you in the name that this part is gonna be dull.
In closing, thanks. Either my son will excel or I will be on here in a year asking about the best electronic drum kit. Lol

This will be band. But again all I have are 2 practice pads and sticks. Really looking for a bare bones beginner YouTube channel.

FYI: he needs to learn keyboard most likely to be in marching band percussion. My son plays drums in School of Rock on a kit. Trying to do marching band percussion was miserable for him. They play the xylophone quite a bit and are expected to be able to read sheet music in marching band. And it sucks for kids who just want to be rhythmic.
Also; if it’s like it was here: percussion is like the MOST difficult instrument to get as an assignment. Know multiple really good rock drum type kids who didn’t make tryouts and ended up assigned to clarinet or some shite.
All that being said; Vic Firth marching band 101 has a bunch of video tutorials.

Here’s a beginner lesson from the Drumeo channel. Much of their lessons are more advanced but they do have some good stuff for all levels.

I can't help you with Rudiments but if he gets too bored, show him what good rudiments can lead to. DCI 2019: Santa Clara Vanguard Drumline
That Drumline is so damn clean.

Get this book.
Focus on proper technique early on. May be worthwhile to find a teacher that can give a few hands on lessons to get your son on the right path.

Take it from someone who did everything on ear and talent on loan from the Zulu tribe....
Learn your rudiments and proper sticking FIRST, then have at it.
I spend more time unlearning the shitty ways I taught myself stuff than learning new stuff 20 years in.
ETA - Learning how to read sheet music is something I wish I knew how to do.
Electronic kits? I have a Roland TD-25 KV and love it so far.
