Would Vermillion River area be any better? We initially were looking at Palmetto State Park... Drove through there yesterday and boat launch was blocked by fallen dead trees. Not sure if that’s recent or hurricane left overs.

I do wildlife photography too...if the fish aren’t bitin’.

Also, look at Sam Houston Jones SP if it's back up and running.
Last time I camped at SHJ, there were a lot of campers with boats.

For amazing photography and decent freshwater fishing, check out Chicot State park in Ville Platt.

Vermilion River, trashy through laffy and you could find a dead body between 90 and origins in St Landry parish. Bring a sack lunch and dranks, explore.

Palmetto is a pretty place. I know that you can use a canoe over there and fish, but I have never tried it. If you like photography then I would choose Palmetto over Cypremort - just my opinion. You'll find more of a freshwater swamp type habitat over a saltwater coastline/marsh habitat.

There are fish in the ponds at Palmetto. Bass, sacalait, and bream. Beautiful area to photograph.
