Posted a thread last week, asking what to do in North Arkansas over mardi gras. Well with temps in the teens next week, we pulled the audible and are headed to West Texas. doing the star tour at the observatory in Fort Davis. Any must see hikes (with two 8 year olds) in big bend?

did you get a reservation at the observatory? That's a new Covid thing (unless they stopped recently). When we went in November, we couldn't get one as they were booked several months out.

at 8 they should be able to do most of the popular day hikes. Boquillas canyon, Santa Elana canyon, the window, lost mine. Ernst tinaja is pretty neat and not too far out of the way if you're already in the Boquillas canyon area.

Where are you staying?

Was there last week with our 7 year old son. We did Window Trail (moderate complaining), Santa Elena Canyon (mild complaining), Mariscal Mine (zero complaining) and Ernst Tinaja (zero complaining).
I really wanted to do Lost Mine Trail but didn't have the time.

Be prepared, the park is BIG and takes time to get around. Also check out the current road closures.

The crossing is currently closed due to Covid, but if it opens before you get down there it is a must do. You will need passports for everyone

Window is great for the younger kids. Still gotta stay in your toes though.
