Compared to a red dot setup, yes. Compared to a red dot with a magnifier, you're probably better off with a LPVO if weight is driving your decision.
The truth is that either one is going to be a compromise if you want to use it for short and long range. If you just have one gun that you want to use as a do-all put a red dot on it and invest in a good QD scope mount for the scope of your choice. Swap them out when you want to go hunt or shoot at longer distances.

How about a prism?
You can get them in x1, x3 or x5 I think.
If you have eye issues they can correct for them. They are not variable so you are stuck at whatever you buy, but a x3 prism might be a good combination.
