There could be some fine print in your policy that says you have to contact them if something changes. It could potentially cause them not to cover you if you have a loss and they would discover it later. Having said that, if the alarm company doesn't have any law that they are breaking or whatever by not telling the insurance company, they shouldn't be the ones to tell. Nobody likes a snitch.
