Also I think poirier made a misstep when he flat out declined to fight chandler. Dana loves a guy that steps up and chandler has stepped up to be the backup, stepped up and knocked out a top 5 opponent in great fashion, and also stepped up to take a fight if ufc made the deal for 258(which they couldn’t). We will see how it plays out but if he refuses Dana won’t frick around with him I promise that. While chandler hasn’t been in the ufc, he has looked good and fought well against top level guys, not to mention knocked out hooker when poirier couldn’t.

I’m a Jiu jitsu guy and our sport is absolutely plagued by the fact that top level guys won’t fight other top level guys, and I really hope that fighters like Dustin don’t start the same problem in MMA because they want to protect their brands and pick and choose good stylistic matchups for themselves

I know this might not be received well because we’re on a Louisiana forum and I get that Dustin is a great guy and has turned into a great role model, etc. but it really rubbed me the wrong way that he went so far out of his way to be Mr. “I’m going to promote my hot sauce at weigh ins and be buddy buddy with McGregor and make it clear that I’m a businessman first and a fighter second” guy throughout the entire process of UFC 257

It’s hard to describe but I feel like that mindset is extremely prevalent in BJJ and that was the first time I’ve seen it pour over into MMA on a noticeable level, it would be a very bad thing for the UFC if it became the prevailing mindset
