Sod yard after putting in pool?

Once pool is done should I just put dirt over existing grass then sod or spray something on existing grass before putting dirt on top then sod?

Spray it with glyphosate. Wait a week. Rake out the dead stuff. Topsoil, and then sod.

I'd be surprised if you have any dirt left after the pool is complete. I have a small yard and the pool install left me with very little grass. I ended up putting down some topsoil to level things out then added some sod.
With that said, I don't think you want to bury existing grass. I always remove everything organic before doing something like that.

Till the remaining grass area then rake out the larger grass clippings. Add a heavy sprinkle layer of Scotts Turf builder lawn soil or similar and then put the sod down.
Putting down anything to kill grass before planting new grass on top does not make much sense.

It depends on how the chemical kills the grass. Glyphosate/Round-Up kills through the leaves of the grass, and does not leave any residual “killer” in the soil. You definitely want to remove/kill the old grass before placing/planting the new.
Everything else you said was good though.

I have a pretty large area to sod after pool is in. I’ll use the dirt they dig out for the pool to level out then sod. So want to know the best route to take.

My grass was all gone after pool install... I had a truck load of river sand spread throughout the whole yard and then laid sod over that. Grass took and grew perfectly.

Have you asked if the pool company would scrape it off?
Otherwise spray it dead & rake it out to bare ground. Then till & grade it.

You actually have grass? Took this pic of my backyard a few hours ago. I won't have to worry about killing grass. Not to mention the pool builder bring a bobcat in to smooth out the yard at end of build.

Yes. Are you in Az? Ha. In South La. I have grass. Plenty of it.

I'm in North Louisiana. Had a ton of trees too though. So between cutting them and moving them with a tractor and then a pool dig I don't have any grass to worry about.

Off topic but what is the reason that the hot spa seems to always be built on the other side of the pool furthest from the house? If I were building a new pool the spa would be convenient to access from the house.

The wife wanted the shallow ledge closest to the house plus it looks better cosmetically since the spa is raised. With the raised spa closest to the house it blocks the view of the pool and makes it harder to see kids swimming. I plan on building a covered area on backside of pool with heaters and fireplace as well.
