I agree. I actually think Zion's been fine defensively, on ball, when he can just lock in on his man.

Its the off ball stuff that gets him in trouble.

I think part of that is probably because he spent most of his time in HS and college standing in the paint waiting for guys to come to him. Now he's having to learn how to chase guys around 20+ feet from the basket.

Honestly, I think all of this stuff is going to be laughable a few years from now. People are crushing a guy less than 40 games into his career.

If he still struggles after year 3, then I'll be concerned. He's slowly playing better as he gets more experience. All I want to see is progression which we are already seeing. While he still has a long way to go, he's being asked to do a lot. It's unheard of to ask such a young player to prioritize defending the post and rotate all the way out to the 3 point line against these stretch 4s. But people will be hard on him because of expectations of a generational talent.
