Phones should work fine in just about any network.
$40 bucks is hard to beat. Do you know if you're still using the Sprint network or have you been switched to the T-Mobile network? Apps like Signal Check on Android will tell you which carrier and band you're using. If it's 26 or 25, then you're on Sprint. If it's 2, 4, 12, 66, or 71, you're on T-Mobile. Both use band 41, but that band is hardly congested. There's no way you're on it.
