whats the deal on him not playing? how can someone come back faster on a complete ACL tear than a broken fibula? makes little sense

Calm down. As long as he is 100% when he does come back, its OK if he misses preseason time. This offense is going to be deadly with a healthy Jeremy Shockey. Weapons all over the place.

Snapping your leg in half is a pretty big deal. Plus he's carrying a lot more weight the Mckenzie.

Payton said he would not play as a precaution. They don't want him to go out this close to the season and something happen and he gets hurt

Don't know if it is accurate to say he snapped his leg in half. The fibula is a very small bone compared to the tibia which is the main bone of the lower leg.

broken bones heal faster than surgically constructed ligaments which is an unnatural repairing process....most people when they tear a ligament, never get it reconstructed. i think he the other injury of his foot is what is keeping him cautious not so much the fibula healing which by now has been set and healed for months

Payton said after the game that he basically pulled the rug out from under Shockey. He said he let him prepare all week thinking he would play, then told him before the game that he wouldnt go. Guess he wanted to let him get in that groove again. So it wasnt Shockey's call it was the coach's.

Saints | Shockey kept on sidelines
Sun, 24 Aug 2008 01:53:48 -0700

The Associated Press reports the New Orleans Saints decided to keep TE Jeremy Shockey (leg) out of their preseason game Saturday, Aug. 23. They sat him out after pregame warm-ups. Head coach Sean Payton said Shockey had a good pregame, but the team wanted to be cautious with him. "I'm excited about where he's at right now, but I held him back. We didn't want to go through the scenario of having him setback."

Not hurt. Just rehabbing and Payton playing it smart. We need him for the regular season

I think Shockey also had a groin pull which sometimes takes a while to heal. This could be the reason for keeping him out but this leg issue does make me concerned. Did we get damaged goods.

I said before he was injury prone and he is a a-hole. I was against his signing from the very beginning.

I don't think that is the case straight forwardly but may have more merit than some might think.

Payton knows Shockey and how to use him in detail already. I see him as a fresh ingredient for Payton the Mad Scientist Play Designer. When he gets in next week look for very vanilla just getting broken in acclimation.

I'm imagining the first critical offensive juncture in Game One against the Bucs... then we will see in a game for the first time... Colston and Meachem split wide, Patten in the slot, Shockey shifts out wide, Bush goes in motion out wide the opposite side... OMG who is gonna cover'em all?
