won a trip at work. basically have a $7,500 travel voucher to do what i want with. i won it Jan 2020. had a trip booked to CA... monterey, pebble beach, carmel by the sea, then down to big sur. 8 days, 7 nights. was booked may of 2020. enter covid- travel agent suggested we cancel. we had insurance.
so now wife is pregnant and wanting to book a trip before baby is due in july.
What would the Travel Board do?
ETA: dont want to go to california because their governor is a psycho since covid

Ouch, the cancelled trip sounds perfect; I did a very similar itinerary in Jan '18 and it was great.
Are you looking for scenery, outdoors, relaxation, beach, or what? You okay with a hotel or you need a house/condo?
Not sure how your or spouse feel about spas, but with your budget, you could spend some time at the Lake Austin Spa Resort: LINK Could combine that with some time elsewhere in the TX Hill Country.

Telluride. The Peaks if she wants to spa...something in town if she’s more into the feel of a place. Rent a 4x and drive over to Ouray on Imogene (sketchy but fun). It’s gorgeous out there.

Bahamas...Staniel Cay Yacht Club, Fly on Maker's Air from Ft Lauderdale (Same owner as Staniel cay I think). Do the all inclusive (food, boat etc). Stay in one of the cottages and boat around the area (pigs, iguanas, thunderball grotto all really close). One of the best vacations I have ever been on.

We like Miami and we'll stay in North Miami Beach. There are lots of good hotels right on the beach. It's close enough to other stuff where you don't really need to rent a car. It's more of a locals area than the touristy South Beach, but still close enough to South Beach to hang out there some if you want.
Scottsdale and Sedona are nice, but not after May. Again, nit sure what kind of vibe you guys are into. Scottsdale has some great hotels, shopping, restaurants, etc. Sedona is a more relaxed place with scenery to chew on for days. Plenty of Spas in both places. Sedona is going to have more of that bohemian, laid-back feel. Scottsdale is certainly more uptown.
Niagra Falls could be cool if you looks for cooler climes. Pacific City, OR is a place on my list of getaway spots, too. You fly into Portland and drive 2 hours to the coast to this little quiet, seaside resort town.
However, the itinerary you originally were going for is a great one. It would be dumb to allow whatever issue you have with a Governor in another state stop you from such a fantastic trip. Pretty sure you're not going to bump into him. I have a friend who runs a hotel there in Big Sur and he says it's business as usual like any other place that depends on tourism. That's all a long way from the crazy stuff you see in the high population centers.

In my experience, the quality of the vacation destination in the US is directly related to the wackiness of the politicians. Stick with the original plan and don't turn on the TV or think about politics for one minute during the trip.

Hawaii bro. Put some cash in and stay two weeks. Hit all the islands up. March, the Whales will be migrating through.
