Yep. The connections are too strong for it not to be. Ed coached Nielsen at USC and had him on staff at Ole Miss. I think Ed sees himself in Nielsen and Nielsen would be Ed's first choice. The problem is he's not a "big name" to appease others besides Ed, so Ed had to try to hire one of those guys first before he had the leverage to get the guy he really wants...Nielsen.

No one in the college ranks is still playing and looking at NFL staffs Nielsen is the only realistic name that seems to "fit". At this point I'd be REALLY surprised if he isn't the DC. And that confidence will only grow with each passing day LSU doesn't name one. I can't imagine LSU is going to wait until the Saints season is over (which could be as late as Feb. 7th) just pursue a guy who they think may tell them no. No doubt LSU will field calls from other interested parties (which I think was the case the Arnette), but I think Nielsen is the guy unless someone who they simply can't refuse expresses interest in the job
