With the most talented defensive team, here are Bama’s rankings:

2015: 2
2016: 1
2017: 2
2018: 10

Golding Arrives

2019: 17
2020: 33

Now, I’m not saying that defenses are just as dominant as they used to be. But there are a lot of schools in high scoring conferences that did better that Alabama last year.

What about the whole "Saban holds down the defense" talking point?

It's either Saban's defense or it isn't.

well maybe BAMA crushing teams offensively had something to do with that overall defensive ranking?

Actually he was there in 2018 as Co-DC and Bama's 2019-2020 defense wasn't the most talented in the country and was super young.
LSU's defense in 2019 was more talented than Bama's

I’m not sure what those rankings indicate, but Alabama finished 13th nationally in scoring defense. They were also 13th in 2019.

This is misleading. You are apparently using the total yards per game rank. Nobody gives a shite about that. Defenses are designed to prevent points. So scoring defense (points per game) rank over the same time period:

2016:1
2017:1
2018:12
2019:13 <- he arrives
2020:13

So it dropped a whopping total of 1 national spot from his predecessor in scoring defense, the only metric that means anything. Maybe this is still not up to standard, but it's still at an elite level and not at all the precipitous drop that cherry picked stats show.

LSU saw a slip under Aranda...as far as "rankings" go. Believe that's more to do with Offenses than bad coached Defenses....Outside of Bo lol
