Your takeaway has a huge effect on your swing

The last lesson I had pro said the main thing I had to work on was my takeaway, it was way too inside. After that when I would play I thought I was taking it back correctly but the results were not there.
I sat in front of a mirror last two weeks and tried to hit the middle guy in the picture every time I took the club back with the clubhead covering my hands. It was hard at first but after a bunch of mirror work it started to become second nature
Played this weekend and the results were dramatic, much better golf all round after learning to hit that spot on the takeaway. Ive been inside my whole life and you really need mirror work to nail this spot, cant do it on your own.
Shaun Webb at Athletic Motion Golf has a bunch of videos on how important the takeaway is, here is a good one

Takeaway sets the motion for the whole swing, you have to nail it to be successful baws.
If your takeaway sucks your golf is gonna suck.

While not entirely wrong, there's no perfect takeaway or swing.....see Trevino, Nicklaus, Furyk & Miller Barber.
The simplest way to correct your takeaway is to NOT have one....check out the no-takeaway swing.

Yes, it's important, but what's perfect for someone depends on matchups later. Matt Wolff is closer to the guy on the right than the middle.
Inside takeaway is going to be worse than the other 2. There's a ton of successful guys with an outside takeaway, and they go steep to shallow. Inside is going more than likely be a steepening at the top and an over the top slicing action.

right, as long as you get it back on plane you can roll with whatever, but that middle guy gets the club on plane immediately and you don't have to manipulate it coming down which was huge for me.
If you take it away outside like Wolff you are going to have to manipulate it coming down to get it back on plane.

Been working on the same things you are and noticed a big difference, just havent gotten it ingrained yet where i can really go at a ball, everything is still in the 3/4 swing phase. just talking about regular golfers here but inside takeaways lead to over the top swings a lot of the time. its hard to get the club back on the correct plane.
I struggle with it and if its a day where the timing is bad it can be all over the place.

Yea you gotta go slow with it at first, almost in slow motion with a mirror with a lot of reps. I took my phone and put it behind me on the range and would make a swing and I would feel like I nailed the move and the recording would show I was inside.
You cannot rely on feel to get better, you need video or a mirror to ingrain it.

Golf is hard as shite because this
feels almost just like this
but they are massively different and give you extremely different outcomes, yet they feel almost exactly the same.

If you incorporate the JT pre-shot takeaway, it will probably help you as well.

I started doing that this summer, it has helped a bunch.
My putting has also improved since I started calling myself a fa**ot when I miss

Yep, same here. I use my phone a lot and my swings that feel perfect look like a folded up lawn chair. It’s a process but will pay off in long run.

Im fighting the inside takeaway big time. I finally put my swing on video. Its inside and over the top. Its not horrible, but can lead to some REALLY bad things. I feel like I am either guy 1 or 3. I dont know how to get into that sweet spot.

Arnold Palmer said the most important part of the golf swing was the first foot you took the club back. Set everything in motion properly.

Same here, funny part is I rarely hit a bad slice. My miss is a straight pull or a hook, trying to straighten things out at 41 and after 15 years playing is interesting to say the least.

Same here, my miss is a massive hook.
I take it too far inside but instead of coming over the top I keep the club inside and hit a massive IN to OUT shot. I got so sick of this hook bullshite I was determined to fix it and for me after getting on video and pressure plates with a pro the takeaway is the trick, but its gonna take a shite load of reps to ingrain into second nature.
Ill record my swing and my mind thinks Ive 100% hit the sweet spot on the takeaway and the fricker is dead shut inside. Only way to kill it for good is mirror work.

I used to slice, now my miss is a bad hook. It’s the same problem though. It’s a weird game. I would rather the hook. At least you can roll punch hooks when it’s going bad.

Your face is closed to your path for the hook, square to your path for the pull. So you're likely taking it inside with a shut face, then maintaining that relationship. Slicers leave the face wide open to the path.

yep, I had (have) a very handsy swing. When I release the club like your supposed to I hit the ball left. I would hold onto it and could hit it straight

Step one to fixing a slice is having your miss be a hook/pull because at least your closing the club face. Now you just have to fix the club path.

I struggle with this too. I started to take lessons in March to fix it and my coach changed my grip as well as constant work on takeaway and keeping my wrists cocked. The best tool he gave me is an old arse club that is hinged. When the club is taken back wrong, the head "breaks." Same thing when the writs drop at the top. I have practiced my takeaway every day, and it has been fixed. It took 2 months of daily use to get my muscle memory built.
