I don't think they enjoy any big advantage here...players are more and more willing to go out of state to the hot programs...and there is so much competition in-state with the other Power 5 schools...

Texas A&M moving to the SEC was the best move they ever did...no offense to the Big 12 but conference is largely irrelevant outside of Texas and OU. The SEC is top dog and is highly attractive to stud HS playes...Aggies have a strong selling point (playing in the SEC) over UT.

If those factors were insurmountable, then Texas would be in the 10-15 (or lower) range in recruiting classes in the last 3-4 years. But it's been in the 3-8 range (though I take class rankings with a big grain of salt). Out of state schools taking great players from Texas is nothing really new. Tech, TCU, Baylor are not recruiting at any higher level than they ever did. A&M is recruiting well - but they've recruited well in many periods of time before. OSU's success in Texas (to me) feels like Notre Dame's success in the 80s...Bama's feels like Miami's of the 80s-90s.

No one thinks every stud is going to Texas. That isn't realistic and hasn't been for a very, very long time. Having the right head coach is the key to everything.

While I agree with the “Right Coach” angle, Texas is rich with recruits at the HS level.... but the Texas program has suffered in recruiting...... I mean they have a great city and great facilities and everything that say a TCU doesn’t have yet they still lose recruits to them..... it’s not so much a coaching thing it’s a TEXAS thing......
