What civil unrest are you thinking went on in Nola? It was pretty tame compared to a lot of places. I do worry a lot about the future of Nola. The combo of Covid and count Destroya might be too much to overcome. Nothing of significance will take place in the city until next fall and that's bad. Very bad. Despite all the shite posting about Nola, the city before Covid was better than it had been in 35 years and tourism and real estate was booming. I don't know what to think anymore.

That's going to be the hard part, how does the city hold on? I agree the Civil Unrest wasn't bad in NOLA this time around but with the city being majority black we all know that NOLA is still a Civil Rights powderkeg waiting to happen. To me that very much holds the city back.

Obviously Mardi Gras is off, I haven't checked on Jazz Fest but guessing Jazz Fest will either be canceled again, delayed until summer, significantly reduced or virtual. Living in NOLA what is the word on Jazz Fest and other festivals for 2021?

I'm assuming Jazzfest is going to be cancelled. Too much logistics and signing contracts with major acts, etc is involved for them to be able to wait a few more months to see what happens. LaToya will fight has hard as possible to make them cancel ASAP.

I guess French Quarter Fest, being smaller, can wait a while to decide.

It all hinges on whether or not Lauren Daigle is scheduled to perform.

Are you from NOLA?

NOLA has, very possibly, the BEST race relations of any majority-black city in the country. People of all colors know how to live together here. You don't have the racism that you see in cities that are majority white but have a large black population. And there are enough white people who live here, and who will continue to live here, to avoid the radical black power that places like Jackson, MS have to deal with.

Remember, pulling down 4 statues was caused by a WHITE man with white guilt. Most black residents here could have cared less. And despite having an outsider black mayor, there's barely any real talk about taking down any more statues. A few street names may be changed, sure, but that's hardly a powder keg.

Objectively, some of the worst civil unrest this year occurred in the whitest metros in the US (Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis) — how do you reconcile this?

As someone who lives and works in downtown NOLA, the city’s demographic makeup was definitely on my mind when things began to pop off this summer. I thought for sure they’d burn this B down, only to see for myself that what *LITTLE* “unrest” there actually was came almost exclusively from disgruntled white kids from New Jersey/Connecticut who don’t wear deodorant. These are transient types who leave after 2-3 years. By 2030, they’ll be far from NOLA at some suburban school board meeting in TX loudly opposing gender norms. They’re coming for ya!

The self-loathing white liberal is who you really need to fear, and don’t be so naive to think the decline of cities like NOLA, Chicago, St Louis, Detroit, etc cannot be very quickly be replicated in other American cities. It’s already happening — look around you.
