Why can offensive players initiate contact with their helmets and use them as a weapon, but defensive players can’t? There’s just no consistency

Because the rule is terrible

Why can running backs grab a facemask but the defender can't?

Offensive players can be called for targeting. Just a lot harder because while they do lead with their heads they generally don’t go with the crown, and defenders making a tackle are not defenseless.

Look it’s the rule. That tackle is how guys break necks. From peewee football you are taught to tackle with your head up. Hit with the face mask. Skalski needs to know how to make a tackle. I can understand at times when your head is down when diving into a pileup. But that was poor head technique on a tackle.

You're right. Poor form deserves an ejection....

I dont like the ejection part but at this time its the rule. Skalki knew it was the rule.
How many times does the same player have to be ejectrd before he learns the rule????

When it is the rule. And the type of hit that breaks your neck. He had plenty of time on the tackle to do it correctly. I feel worse about the targeting calls she the runner or receiver changes the level of their head before the head. Basically causing the targeting.
