re: Let’s see those 2020 401k returns

Just used a simple calculator online that takes my 1/1/20 total portfolio balance, 12/31/20 portfolio balance and all of my contributions throughout the year and it spit out 18.82%


Shows the power of an extremely short time frame and getting lucky.

401k only returned 12.12% contributing throughout the year. A few contributions came at low points but obviously the majority came at or around ATHs. Additionally, a few unluckily timed transfers as I said in my previous post.

My Roth contributions and many of my taxable contributions just happened to come at many of the low points of the year. Not due to skill, but really luck.

My Roth annualized return was 64% and my taxable annualized was like 45%
