The opt out is only for this year and look, this has been a screwed up year. There was a point, close to the beginning of the season, when no one knew if anyone would play or when they would start playing.

The PAC12 & Big10 decided at first to not play. The SEC decided to play a 10 game all SEC schedule starting in October. A lot of teams had their Spring practice cut short. So I don't think you can take what happens this year and compare it to normal seasons in the future.

I will say this. CFB needs to restructure its bowl season, but everyone else does whats in their best interest.. Do you expect the players to not do so as well?

It will become the new norm

The only was to address the issue is to expand the playoff, which would also have the added benefit of making the sport more relevant outside the South and parts of the Midwest.

16 teams with first round being played on campus would help a lot IMO
