Come on, man. It was Gilligan's Island, not Firing Line or Wild Kingdom. No one was tuning in because it was a milestone of critical thinking in television writing or scientific discourse. You would just put it in the same place you would questions about where their immense wardrobes came from. For example, the Howells went through as many as 6-7 costume changes per episode while Ginger and Mary Ann went through as many as 5-6. No one really questioned it, you just went with it because it was part of the humor.
