Honestly, i think they were enamored with TJ's arm talent, and after seeing the defense the first few games, figured LSU would have to win via shootout, and that was the best option.

I'm sure that was part of it. People who claimed to have "inside" knowledge were also saying TJ had a better grasp of the playbook and looked better in practice. True or not I wouldn't be surprised. TJ throws a really nice pass when he's on schedule with his feet set. I stated early on my concern with him was his footwork bc he's an upper body thrower so once he gets pushed off his mark his mechanics are more apt to breakdown. That became more evident in games when the pocket wasn't clean.

No matter how hard you try you can't accurately simulate true game experience. In practice there is no true pressure.
