Does he have the physical ability and isn't grasping the defense as well as he should?
Or is he not as physical as we thought he would be?

Thought this was gonna be about towel waving

He was very raw coming out of high school, thats all. He'll be really good eventually, Chevis Jackson and Zenon didnt light the world on fire at the start either.

He has just as much ability and talent as anyone in the country excluding a couple DBs. He just has to get some more experience and put it all together.

Actually the latest reports on Jai are very encouraging. I think he may be coming into his own. By his own admission, the transition from HS QB to college corner was more than he expected, but he seems to have finally made the transition.

... is not quite in the same ballpark as that of Patrick Peterson, in my opinion

What do you base this opinion off of??

off the fact that I fully expect Pat to come in this year and stand out among all of our other cornerbacks

Because he was the #1 rated CB in the country???
I hope he comes in and has a great year, but it's the same learning curve for him as it was for every other great HS CB LSU has ever had (including Eugene). I thought maybe you got to see him play or saw him practice.

Come on! He was a redshirt freshman! To answer your question, he has good aggressive instincts, good closing speed, and very good agility/hips. Last year you could tell he could keep up with anyone, he just wasn't used to defending the ball quite yet. It will come with experience.

No, he really wasn't. He was a HS QB first and foremost, and he played a safety like position more than he played CB.
I guess if Phelon Jones isn't a good CB this year we will have to ask what his problem is too. Only at least Phelon Jones really was a CB in HS.

I really can't explain it honestly. He just has a presence about him that I don't think Jai had coming to LSU out of High School in 2006. We'll see in a couple weeks though. I expect Jai to start, but we'll be seeing PP rotating in alot in my opinion from the start of the season.

That's my whole point. Are you really around him enough to know what type of "presence" he has about him? Do the other players bow down to him because he is supposed to be great?
Like I said, I hope he is amazing on the field. That would be wonderful, but he is still making a huge jump from HS to the SEC. Very few true freshman can step in and take over the SEC right away.

Jai Eugene was one the top corners in the country in his respective year. Patrick Peterson is one of the top corners to come out in the last decade.

agreed, fast does not equal big AND fast. This guy has NFL corner size at age 18...I mean seriously, you should pay 9.95 for one month of rivals and look at the CLEAR difference in film. PP is that good

well, Eric Berry came in at CB for Tennessee a year ago and lit the world on fire
Various people have said that physically Peterson is ahead of where Berry was coming out of high school, not to mention the fact that Berry was a HS QB, while PP was a HS CB (even though he also was utilized on offense at QB and WR).
