Anybody got one?

The damned thing is battery powered and just clamps on your existing water meter, no cutting of pipes required. I guess it reads water flow via magic.

For $200 it sounds like a no-brainer if it can detect a leak a day, week, or month before you notice anything wrong.

And there's a home assistant integration in case you want to get fancy and set water budgets for the wife and kids to be more aware.

2 things

1. my water meter is a fricking bazillion feet away from my house so i will not 'rest assured' this wifi will work for 'everyone' as they claim. its not like i have extra outlets buried in the lawn to connect a bridge to. i would have preferred zwave or zigbee since this is only passing back a super tiny bit of data. how long is the battery life on this sucker?

2. whats to stop the water company from removing what appears to be an attempt to defraud the water usage meter? this clearly looks suspicious as hell. i love how they 'addressed' this with a BIG RED DO NOT REMOVE message.

and yes i want one.

It's not wifi, just a low power RF, and they claim it has a range of about 1000 feet. The receiver unit has to be in wifi range, but you can plug it in as near the water meter as you can.

They say 4 AA's last about 2 years.

Yeah I thought about that too, but I can't imagine the meter reader stealing it, and I can't imagine them removing it every time they stop by if you keep putting it back on.

No frick you they'll shut down within 12 months

i missed the RF -> WiFi bridging. That's kinda cool. I have an RF remote I use to turn on a bunch of those costco outdoor string lights and the battery in it has GOT TO BE at least 10+ years old. I've had the little remote forever so that is encouraging regarding the meter.

ok i have to have this water & electricity are my 2 biggest money drains followed by propane in the winter. i wanted a similar device for my propane tank but i had the 'wrong' type of propane meter so the doo-dad wasnt compatible and the propane company claimed they couldn't replace it.

So I went to check my meter for compatibility (allegedly 95% of them are), and I don't think I have to worry about my meter reader being suspicious of the device.

After 15 minutes of digging I've determined that I have the Sensus SRII which is compatible. And it looks like it can be read wirelessly so I don't have to call them up and question how the frick they've been billing my usage.

I have 1 check your water company for rebates. Mine ended being free with the rebate.

It detects it by the meter counting.

Does it work well? Have you checked its measurements vs your water bill? Has it helped you to find any leaks or faucets left cracked open?

I'll definitely check about rebates, thanks for the tip!

It does. I haven't check measurements vs water bill. It did help 1 time when I left my faucet on outside and another time determining I left my sprinklers on at the wrong time. It notifies if you want, for unusual activity like that.

THIS!!

i have to fill my pool up manually a few times a year and sevearl times i've left the hose in the pool for hours.

a notification on my phone would be glorious if i left the water running or there's a leak.

I especially want to know if you can "sync it" to match the numbers on the pipe meter and if it stays in sync or if it's an estimate.

Of course the water company may not always test the meter every month and might estimate it but eventually the numbers should sync up if it's truly accurate and someone actually reads the meter.

You would actually need to know the day they record it and go down to the meter and read it yourself because the water will continue to flow so the numbers will change is your don't check it the same day.

First update, ordered on Saturday. It shipped on Monday and was delivered on Wednesday.

It took me about 15 minutes to install and seems to be working. I'll setup the sync-up experiment.

My first piece of advice is to figure out where you want to place the bridge prior to starting the install process. Place the bridge and then begin the install process. The install process is "Download the app and follow the instructions".

There's a REST api available. Since I like to tinker I'll probably whip up a python client on my linux box when I get some free time.

After a week of monitoring and 2300 gallons of water usage I can report the difference between the meter reading and the flume is 0.1 gallons. That difference is within the accuracy of the markings on the water meter.

I'm happily surprised.

I can also report it continues to collect data through a power outage. We had a power out for a few hours yesterday. I couldn't read data during this time period (the sender unit has a battery, the rf-wifi bridge doesn't). As soon as the power was restored I checked and all the data was available from the time period when the power was off.

That is fricking incredible and I never would have guessed it worked that well, happy to hear that it does!

I don't think I can live without this for another day.
