As if you guys couldn't get any more erect:
Friday isn't close to being the end, like some are ignorantly assuming.
quote:
How long will it take Melvin Capital and other shorters to cover their short positions? You take alllll the shorted shares, divided by the average volume of share movement per day, and you get something called "Days to Cover"
So you can see, even if Melvin Capital wants to cover their shorts, it's gonna take them DAYS, and right now it's gonna take them an entire trading week to cover their position.
So what does that mean for us?
Well, we're just waiting for the day when Melvin Capital starts covering their position. When is that day? VERY frickING SOON. They're are bleeding out of their arse with the insane interest rate they're paying for their position, and a lot of puts are expiring on Friday, plus a lot of ITM (in the money) calls expire Friday and can be exercised to get shares.
Friday might be the day where Melvin Capital have no choice BUT to start covering.
Now, IF this happens, then it's not gonna take Melvin Capital 1 hour to cover all their shorts, but DAYS. Meaning if Melvin capital starts covering FRIDAY, it will take them at LEAST 5 DAYS to fully cover, which means ALL of next week, the price will keep increasing and increasing! So realistically I'd say Weds or Thurs next week might be peak sell time, IF the covering starts Friday. No need to panic sell. No need to worry about a top that lasts for minutes. It will LAST FOR DAYS!!!!!

honestly if I'm GameStop I announce a dividend. could you imagine?
I would love to know what their board is thinking right now
If you don't make any money and you don't issue any new shares, how are you going to pay out a dividend?

Man I lucked out. I was aware of this when it was around $20 a share but didn't get how drastic the squeeze was going to be. At $30 I though it was too late. I decided to get in Sunday night and get 20 shares at $65. Well it opened above $80 and my order didnt get filled and then jumped to $130 and thought I missed out. Thankfully with the huge drop Monday my order went through after I decided I was just going to sit back and watch.
I had a sell order at 560 so I would clear 10k that I just canceled. If it opens below $250 I may grab 4 more shares.

They would hedge short positions with calls if anything, not puts.
So we have 69MM shares outstanding with a daily volume of almost 100MM shares for the last few days. Who's to say there hasn't been substantial covering? We don't have accurate data on that. If it would have been HELD and not day traded, there would be no escape for the shorts... but that wasn't the case. What happened with Volkswagen in 2008 was due to only 1% of the shares available being accessible to trade. I just think new investors should take this into account.
Good luck to all

In a sense there has been. Those "short shares" that were sold back when the stock was at 4 dollars have probably been covered BUT they are being replaced with new short shares at the higher prices.
The hedge funds game is to bleed out the internet and drive down sentiment enough that they can begin to cover once the frenzy wears off. The problem is they need the frenzy to wear off FAST because they are paying millions upon millions in interest every single day and there's always a risk they get margin called.
They can't hold forever because of insane interest costs (50+%). The apes who are strong together are making them bleed like crazy and the game is to get them to say "no mas" and close out. Or for their broker to say frick all this noise we're forcefully liquidating you to buy shares at whatever the price is.
That's the thing. It's fricking great for us that the price has risen so much, but that's not exactly necessary. we could drop in price substantially from here, but if apes stay strong and don't sell to them, the price will have to go up because they HAVE to cover. They don't want to/can't keep paying this interest forever.
I don't think a lot of people truly realize that as long as the short interest isn't SIGNIFICANTLY decreasing (which we don't know for sure, but the available evidence says it's not) then the game has not fundamentally changed since the share price was 20 dollars.

Can GME issue shares? I’m sure this has been brought up but couldn’t they do it on an overnight? Similar to debt? Like a shelf filing?

They have a shelf offering available to them but it is miniscule.
100m dollars. At today's closing price that's less than 300k shares.
