Georgia AD McGarity to retire at the end of the year....

More proof that there is a God. Don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out, Howdy Doody! Georgia as a program will be a lot better off come 1/1/2021.
And before anyone says it, McGarity had NOTHING to do w/hiring Kirby. He wanted Mullen and wanted to keep micromanaging the football program to the point where he almost drove Kirby to S.Carolina and the most influential boosters(Billy Payne, Khan, etc) told him to either shite or get off the pot and let the door close behind you. He has had no business running a major program, let alone an SEC program.
"Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, we are free at last! "

I’m very glad we have Kirby, but Mullen also whooped our arse this year so maybe not the time to act like it was obviously the best decision

Meh. Aside from this year, Kirby has OWNED Mullen everywhere he's been so that argument you're using isn't really valid.
Had JT been healthy and able to start against UF, I think it would of been a much closer game then it was.

I would rather Mullen than Kirby too.
Kirby does recruit better, but as a total package, Mullen > Kirby.

Yea about that...

He also wanted the final say in all of Kirby's staff hires and force Kirby to hire who he wanted, much like he did w/Coach Richt. Thankfully Billy Payne and the other big UGA boosters and Kirby told Howdy Doody to pound sand and took his power away from having anything to do w/the football program.

Kirby is a better recruiter, but he also has a bigger advantage than anyone in the country besides maybe Texas or Bama in recruiting just because of Saban himself.
There is no where easier to recruit to than UGA as a school/city outside of Texas and that place is a dumpster fire. Not Florida, not LSU, no where.
I don't think Mullen would be breaking recruiting richter scales like Kirby, but he'd have top 3-5 classes every year and know what to do with them better. Currently, he gets like the 9th/10th best class.

I am a big Mullen fan. I have never been able to figure out why some LSU fans hate him so much. What he did at state no one has ever done or will do. I have him #3 in my SEC coaching rankings. Kirby 4 or 5.

I don't think LSU fans think he's a bad coach. In fact, most of my conversations with our fanbase have led me to believe we respect his coaching a TON.
We just don't like the guy. He's a wormy Northeasterner.

it's honestly completely insane to not act like uga and florida are on a level playing field in recruiting.
to act as though either has an inherent recruiting advantage over the other is silly.

Got this from another board(and all of it is true):
In his tenure:
-sent UGA tumbling down the Sears Cup standings
-lost the NCAA tennis tournament in Athens
-basically said, "eh, we’ll talk about it Monday" when Gurley news broke, then "thank you sir, may I have another?"ed the NCAA
-bent over backwards to accommodate the Auburn effing Tigers – MORE THAN ONCE
-was such a miser to CMR that he paid assistants out of his own pocket
-all but forced Mike Bobo out of Athens
-was checkmated by JEREMY effing PRUITT into finally building an indoor facility

Probably the best decision your football program has made since recruiting Herschel.

Got this from another poster on the Georgia board, this sums up Howdy Doody's time as AD perfectly:
"Lol yeah I'm sure richt looked around the sec and decided "nah, we don't any of this stuff even though we're the only one without it". You seem to think mcgarity was always ready with the checkbook and was simply never asked, while ignoring the fact richt was having to help pay assistant's salaries out of his own pocket. But I'm sure that's how he wanted it right? We were busing to atlanta to fly to away games and coaches were driving their Tahoe's all over the state to recruit instead of flying. All of this was bc mcgarity was a cheap bastard.
And let's just PRETEND that richt actually wanted to be at a disadvantage and also help pay his staff on his own...shouldn't it be the job of the athletic director to take a look at our peers and say "whoa hold on... we're clearly lagging behind here we gotta make some changes"?
This is the guy that absolutely and utterly whiffed on his first like 10 coaching hires. It wasn't until we got Kirby, which had nothing to do with Greg, we started hiring like we wanted to win. Under mcgarity we lost the tennis National title host that we'd had for years. Our women's bball, gymnastics, and baseball programs went into the shitter under his watch. We still give zero fricks about foley. Baseball and basketball have absolutely no business being the way they have under him considering the talent in state in both sports. He made zero effort to rectify us playing at Auburn back to back, and before the argument of "but the schedule rotations are already set!" Florida and lsu made it work a few years ago when a storm displaced the game and they had to go 2/2 instead of 1/1. He also allowed the dsor to move which helps us zero and only serves to help make Auburn's schedule easier on themselves. He's a hair dyed buffoon that had no business holding his position as long as he did. Good riddance"

There is an LSU alum who may be his replacement.
Posted on 11/30/20 at 7:12 pm to GoldenBoy
Who? I honestly have no idea.
Posted on 11/30/20 at 7:15 pm to SteelerBravesDawg
Mullen is a better HC than Kirby.

Yeah, I did see that earlier. Didn't make the connection, LOL. I like his bio.
Wouldn't be opposed to Jon Stinchcomb either. Or Billy Payne.
