Honestly, there really isn't a practical use for a Barrett 50 cal unless you are a military sniper or just like to shoot shite 1,000 yards away with authority and lets face it, there aren't many ranges out there that can handle that. Plus, if you are in to long range shooting, there are much cheaper and better options but since this is a dream gun, then

I have a .50 BMG. When I was shopping, I had a big debate about it- there surely were better cartridges for what I wanted it for, but Mark Serbu summed it up the best for me (when shopping, I flew to Tampa to meet him and look at his guns).
He said, and I’ll never forget..”Yeah, a .338 Lapua would be way better, but have you ever shot one of these before?” “Uhh, no- I just want one.” “Well then, you need a .50- I have never had someone shoot them for the first time and not just blurt out a big FUUUUUCK”
He was right- it’s totally impractical, but super impressive, and everyone that I’ve ever had shoot it blurts out the magic word.
