If you can find a MF Parsons Deluxe with Leland jaws I agree, of the more basic ones I would rather have a Yankee.

I have never owned a corrugated sole plane. It does make flattening the sole easier. That said I only use modern planes and prefer low angle/bevel up but most of the fully handtool users tend to prefer standard beval down planes.

I've used both, and I like both depending on what I'm doing.

My favorite plane right now, believe it or not, is a no name No. 3 that a guy gave me to clean/tune up for him. I got it cleaned and it has was one of the flattest soles on an old plane that I've seen. It is made on the Bailey patent, but has no markings. All the dimensions make it a 3. The frog is cast, and the blade was fine. It is square to the shoulders and could be used on a shooting board if I wanted.

Whichever no name company made it got that particular plane nearly perfect. I got it cleaned, tuned, and ready to go. I called the guy 2 or 3 times, but never heard from him. I've never seen him again, either. That was nearly 3 years ago, and I've been using it ever since. If he ever shows up, I'd hate to let it go.
