When I was like 16, I was hunting with my uncle and a few of his friends. One of them had a chessie we were hunting with.

We were driving back to camp and I was riding on the open tailgate, dog was in the back too with all the ducks. Dog starts eating a duck, and thinking it was like our labs, I tried to stop him.

He got pissed, just missed my hand, and I had to jump from the truck to get away from him. Told my uncle about it. The owner started explaining the difference in a chessie and a lab. My uncle made it clear that if I had shot the dog, he would have backed me up.

I chalked it up to a chessie that didn’t know me sitting on a pile of ducks he had just retrieved. As a rule now, I just don’t go near a chessie I don’t know around dead ducks.
